We are a handful of micro-winemakers from Sady, a district of Uherské Hradiště. Most of us make wine mainly for the joy of it and for ourselves, and yet we have lovely samples and we are glad to show you our best.
Wine in good company
We want to keep the slow, unhurried pace that is so rare these days. Here the wine takes the lead: sitting down, talking with the winemaker, a slow pace, and moments when there is nowhere to rush. The wine is our calling card and we are glad to show you our best.
PS: bring a picnic
A May afternoon, a blanket on the grass, a glass in hand and the view over Sady. Add a basket of the treats you love. We set up the picnic spots; the wine and the countryside around take care of the mood.
Common questions
- How does the entry fee and payment work?
- The entry fee is 200 CZK on the day and a better-value 160 CZK in advance online, glass and catalogue included. Poured samples are then paid in cash directly with each winemaker, from 15 CZK per 0.5 dl, so bring some cash; the nearest ATM is in Uherské Hradiště. At Vinařství Medek you can also pay by card for bottles and larger orders.
- When can I get tickets?
- We open the advance sale each year and always announce the start by email. Leave us your address in our newsletter and we will send the invitation and the ticket link in good time.
- Can I bring my own food and the family?
- Of course. We set up picnic spots with a view, you bring a basket full of treats and a blanket. The mood is family-friendly, and children are welcome. Your animal friends will enjoy the gardens, but most cellars are off-limits to them.
- Can I get a beer somewhere?
- Definitely. Just nearby is our Derfla pub U Kovaříků. And if there’s a hockey match on, you’ll catch it in some of the cellars too.
- Will there be music?
- Music often gets in the way at events: guests want to talk and can barely hear each other over the band, and the musicians are sad that no one is listening. So we keep it simple. Until 20:00 the wine and the conversation lead the way, and from 20:00 the music starts. After the cellars officially close, Vinařství Medek hosts an after-party with country and pop music and home cooking, until around 22:00. An easy-going end to the evening for anyone who fancies staying on.
- What if it rains?
- The event goes ahead in any weather. For the rainy version we get the cellars and press houses ready, with pergolas and tents outside, so you stay dry and the good mood carries on.
- Where do I park?
- Park at the church car park, just above Vinařství Medek and right by one of the starting cellars, and set off on foot from there. And since you will be tasting with us, best leave the driving for another day, or agree on someone in your group to skip the wine and drive.
- Can I take wine home?
- Yes. You can buy whole bottles on the day, straight from each winemaker. For convenience you can also collect your purchase on the Sunday after the event between 10:00 and 11:00 at each cellar, or by arrangement.
- How do I get there?
- Sady is a short way from the centre of Uherské Hradiště, easy to reach by train or bus. From the centre you can also hop on a Nextbike shared bike, the first 15 minutes free, and park it in Sady in front of the pub U Kovaříků. The route between cellars is about a kilometre, an easy walk, pushchair included.
- Can I pair this with something else nearby?
- Easily. Just nearby you’ll find Výšina sv. Metoděje and Skanzen Rochus, so the whole day can turn into a proper trip through Slovácko. You can reach Rochus through the Mařatice vineyards, or stroll along the Mařatice lane with its lovely townhouses and winemakers’ cellars. If the traditional Ride of the Kings (Jízda králů) in nearby Kunovice falls on the same date, that fits in too.
