At Vinařství Medek, on a hill in Sady just outside Uherské Hradiště, you will find a family winery. Josef makes the wine; his son-in-law Jaromír walks guests through the tasting, in English too. The wines are low-intervention, unfiltered and alive, fermented on wild yeasts from the vineyard, with minimal sulphur, under 60 mg/l.
Most people who stop by are not after a quick taste. They leave having finally learned how to taste wine properly, and with an evening they are glad to come back for.

What guests love
Guests tend to love the same few things, as they happily say in their many reviews.
That it is about savouring and conversation, not just the wine: Jaromír walks you through the tasting so you start noticing the differences between wines, whether you come as a connoisseur or a complete beginner. That these wines don’t leave you with a sore head in the morning. That the wine comes with Mrs Medková’s homemade treats, above all her famous pâté. And that there is a warm, family feel and a view that keep people coming back.
Tasting with the winemaker

An evening at Vinařství Medek is in no hurry. Two pergolas in the garden seat smaller groups, for 6 and for 12, and the cosy cellar under the family house holds up to 12. Larger groups, company events and celebrations are arranged by Jaromír together with local restaurants, in private or hired spaces.
International guests are looked after in English, all year round, by Jaromír. It is best to book a tasting at least a day ahead.
What guests say
Excellent natural wines from Moravia, the kind that hurt neither your head nor your soul.
The guided tasting was simply brilliant, I learned so many new things and they gave us their full attention.
Engaging talk about the wine, witty and from the heart. We had a wonderful time.
Unbelievable! And that pâté!
A superb wine tasting paired with food. An absolutely wonderful experience.
Garden and view

The winery sits up on a hill, so from the pergolas and the garden you look out over the valley. There is a fenced garden and two pergolas to sit together. Settle in, savour a glass of wine and let the evening unfold.
Staying on the hill

Right next to the winery stands a family house split into two self-contained flats, the Studio and the Apartmán. Each has its own equipped kitchenette and its own separate little garden with a pergola and a view over the greenery, just right for sitting over an open bottle of wine.

Both are cosy and practically equipped, and they suit not just an overnight stay but a whole holiday.
For larger groups there is also a town apartment below the hill, in the cultural centre, sleeping up to 7, ideal for staying over after a tasting.
You can see the rooms and book them on Booking.com, where guests rate the stay 9.6.
What guests say
Wonderful hosts, a beautiful place. I felt right at home.
A lovely little house. Outside the children can sit on a blanket and play.
We loved the seating with a view. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the hosts are incredibly kind and helpful.
On the open-cellar route

During the Derfla open cellars, Vinařství Medek is the first stop if you set off from Vésky or Mařatice, and the last and longest one if you come from Uherské Hradiště and Kunovice.
The open cellars here usually wind down with music and homemade food.
